Ham Radio License Exams

Our VE Team provides license exams on the second Sunday of every odd month during the year at the Old Elmwood Recreation Center, in Independence, Ohio. (see details and map below)

Examinations begin at 9:15 AM. Walk-ins are welcome, however, it would be best if can call a registration in at least one week prior to the test date. Special requests for the blind or physically challenged need earliest notification to provide accomodiation. Wheelchair access is available. FCC forms will be available.

Please bring the following when applying for examination: your FCC issued FRN , your license to be sent to the ARRL/FCC with the exam papers. Additional information about testing and procedures can be found on the ARRL FCC License Info and Forms site. Each test candidate will need to bring $15 cash or a check payable to ARRL/VEC for all testing. Second testing will be available, however, another fee will be charged for re-testing after a failed element.

The FCC charges a $35 application fee for new licenses, renewals and vanity applications. This fee is paid directly to the FCC after an application has been submitted to them, This must be completed on the FCC website.

For the ARRL to submit a renewal application to the FCC on behalf of an individual they charge $15 to non-ARRL members, there is no fee to current ARRL members, we collect the ARRL fee, a check or cash and photo ID are required.
